Unlock Your Potential with Hypnotherapy

Welcome to a space of transformation and self-discovery. If you're curious about how hypnotherapy can help you lead a more fulfilling life, you're in the right place. Here, we'll explore what hypnosis is, how it works, and how it can empower you to create lasting, positive change.

What is Hypnosis? A Natural State of Mind

Have you ever been so absorbed in a book or a film that the world around you fades away? Or driven a familiar route and arrived at your destination with little memory of the journey itself? These everyday experiences are forms of trance, a natural state of focused attention that we all encounter.

Hypnosis is not about losing control; it's about gaining a new kind of awareness. It is a different state of consciousness , intentionally guided by a qualified hypnotherapist, to help you access your subconscious mind. Think of it as quieting the conscious "gatekeeper" mind—the part that often overthinks, resists, or rationalizes—to connect with the deeper part of you where lasting change can happen. In this relaxed state, your mind becomes more receptive to positive suggestions, allowing you to reframe past experiences and transform deep-rooted beliefs and behaviors.

Why Choose Hypnotherapy? The Benefits of Looking Within

Hypnotherapy is founded on a powerful idea: you already possess the internal resources needed to solve problems, make changes, and improve your daily life. By tapping into your subconscious mind, we can unlock your potential and facilitate profound transformations.

Hypnotherapy can help you:

  • Change limiting behaviours that have become restrictive.

  • Manage stress and anxiety.

  • Improve self-confidence.

  • Enhance sleep patterns.

  • Ease unresolved emotional problems.

The goal is to foster greater self-awareness and empower you to make lasting changes, tailored to your unique needs.

A Special Focus: Hypnotherapy for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common gastrointestinal disorder characterised by symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating and changes in bowel habits. While traditional treatments focus on managing symptoms , hypnotherapy is an emerging alternative therapy that is already recognised by gastroenterologists for its effectiveness.

Harnessing the Mind-Gut Connection

In the context of treating IBS, the aim is to harness the power of the unconscious mind to alleviate symptoms and improve overall wellbeing. Research unequivocally confirms the effectiveness of hypnosis in relieving the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, to the extent that it is now recognised as a component of treatment for this condition in several countries.

The mechanisms behind this are fascinating. It’s suggested that hypnotherapy:

  • Directly influences the autonomic nervous system, regulating bowel function and reducing hypersensitivity.

  • Modulates the brain-gut axis, facilitating better communication between the central nervous system and the digestive system.

  • Impacts the enteric nervous system, which is crucial for intestinal motility, immunity, and the integrity of the intestinal wall. This could help reduce intestinal wall porosity and improve immune function.

  • Affects the gut-brain axis and the microbiota, potentially leading to beneficial alterations in the gut microbiome.

Clinical Evidence and My Personalised Approach

Research studies have shown the effectiveness of hypnotherapy in the treatment of IBS. People who undergo hypnotherapy often experience a significant reduction in symptom severity, pain, and general discomfort. What's more, these benefits appear to persist over time, making it a potential long-term solution.

My aim is to understand your personal experience of IBS and tailor our sessions to your specific needs. To achieve this, we will start with an in-depth questionnaire and discussion during our first session. This allows me to gain a holistic understanding of your symptoms, triggers, and any underlying emotional factors contributing to your IBS.

Each session is an opportunity for deep relaxation and positive reinforcement. Using guided hypnosis and gentle suggestions, we'll work together to reframe negative thought patterns, release tension, and cultivate a deep sense of peace within you. From the very first session, it is very likely that you will begin to feel more in control, and quickly you may start to feel significant improvements in your overall well-being. The number of sessions needed depends on each individual, but a minimum of 3 sessions is recommended to get a real sense of progress.

  1. Free Initial Call (15 minutes): This is a no-obligation opportunity for you to describe the problem you're experiencing, ask questions, and decide if hypnotherapy feels right for you.

  2. First Consultation (approx. 90 minutes): Our first session is generally the longest. It includes a full exploration of the problem, aims to identify the first objectives, and features your first hypnosis session. I'll also explain hypnosis in more detail and allow time for questions.

Subsequent Sessions (45-60 minutes): Each following session will build on the last as we continue your journey of discovery and change.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Will I lose control during hypnosis?

Not at all. You never lose control or your free will, even if you experience a deep level of trance. Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention—a little like daydreaming—where you can choose how much you engage and respond.

How many sessions will I need?

That entirely depends on your needs and goals. It is considered a short-term therapy, and in my experience, anything between 2 and 10 sessions is the average. It is unusual that it would last more than 6 months at most.

Can everyone be hypnotised?

Most people can enter a relaxed, focused state with guidance—it’s a natural ability. If you are open and willing to engage with the process, you will definitely experience a modified state of consciousness or trance.

Will I remember what happens?

Often yes, but it’s entirely normal to zone out completely and not recall everything that is said or felt during hypnosis. Remember that whatever happens during the session, it’s normal!

How should I prepare for a session?

Just yourself. It can help to come with an open mind and a sense of what you'd like to work on, but you don’t need to have everything figured out. This is a space to explore together.
